The Brief

Cabbage Apartments brings 30 affordable homes to the site of the former Cabbage Inn on Fleetwood’s Lane in Netherton, Sefton. After the pub was destroyed by fire, One Vision Housing saw an opportunity to bring the land back into use and provide much-needed homes for local people.

Completed in 2021, the circa £4.3m development forms part of One Vision Housing’s wider investment in new homes and established communities across Sefton

Designed for the future

Energy-efficient homes, lasting materials and charging points for greener journeys.

Our Role

One Vision Housing appointed BTP to design the apartments, turning the former pub site into contemporary affordable accommodation.

We focused on creating homes that would perform well over time, considering energy efficiency alongside durable materials and long product life cycles. These choices supported the client’s ambition to provide good-quality homes with lasting value.

A place to make your own

Contemporary interiors enhancing everyday living

Design Development

Bringing housing to the former pub site meant giving the land a fresh purpose while responding to local housing need. Our design replaced a redundant site with 30 apartments, helping prevent further decline and bringing residents back to this part of the neighbourhood.

We considered how the homes would perform in everyday use, selecting energy-efficient materials with durability in mind. The aim was to support a low-carbon approach while reducing the need for frequent replacement over the buildings’ lifetime.

Electric vehicle charging points were also included, giving residents access to charging facilities as their transport needs change.

Regeneration of the local area

New homes that strengthen an established community

The contemporary apartments have repaired a gap in the streetscape, transforming a disused site associated with antisocial behaviour into high-quality homes where they’re needed.

Outcomes

Completed following a 19-month delivery programme, Cabbage Apartments has brought a fire-damaged former pub site back into use as 30 high-quality affordable homes.

The development combines contemporary accommodation with durable materials, energy-efficient design and electric vehicle charging facilities. For One Vision Housing, it represents another step in its investment in Sefton, providing new homes within an existing community.

“Affordable housing deserves the same care and attention as any other home. We wanted Cabbage Apartments to feel contemporary and welcoming, giving residents a place they can make their own and feel proud to come home to.”

I qualified as an Architect in 2017 joining BTP the same year, was promoted to Associate in 2019 and became a Director in 2023.

Since joining BTP, I’ve led projects from concept through to completion, ranging from large-scale housing developments to refurbishment and high-rise fire remediation. These include an award-winning 34-home affordable housing scheme in Wythenshawe and successful Gateway 2 applications for Hatton Gardens in Liverpool and The Blake in Southampton. I’ve also built a strong relationship with a major national contractor, delivering high-rise remediation and refurbishment projects across England and Scotland.

As an accredited Building Regulations Principal Designer, I have a particular interest in building safety and compliance. My strengths lie in job running, detailed design and project management, helping projects progress smoothly and meet the required standards.

Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family, travelling where possible to explore different cultures and running recently completing the Great North Run 2025 and London Marathon in 2026.

I joined BTP in 2018 as a Part 1 Architectural Assistant and have since completed my master’s degree in architecture. I’m now working towards my Part 3 qualification, with experience across new-build housing, retrofit, retirement living and high-rise remediation.

My projects include a 50+ unit extra care home, Bowland House 17-storey high-rise remediation and 70 unit Booth Street housing scheme in Stoke. I also lead BTP’s CGI and animation studio, creating architectural visualisations that help clients understand and explore their projects.

Outside work, I enjoy travelling, exploring new places, photography, and spending quality time with friends and family.

Enjoying the work / life balance of a supporting role, I have chosen to remain an architectural assistant and job runner. Having been at BTP since 2008 I have worked with most of the architects over the years. In doing so I have gained experience, knowledge and skills in each of our main sectors, including residential, ecclesiastical, conservation, remediation, judicial and custodial projects.

Outside of work, my teenage sons keep me busy, I enjoy encouraging their passions whether that be cheering at a football match or listening to them about game design. When I get a moment to myself, you'll find me listening to an audio book, tending the garden.
