Creating spaces that enhance lives, strengthen
communities, and respect our environment.

Our culture

BTP was founded on the belief that architecture has a responsibility beyond the building line.

We believe good design helps people feel safe, connected and proud of where they live and work. More than 40 years on, that belief still guides us. Our practice has grown, our expertise has deepened and our client relationships have strengthened, but our purpose remains the same.

Our Purpose

At BTP, we believe architecture has the power to transform lives. It is not just about creating beautiful buildings - we aim to design spaces that are sustainable, foster wellbeing and contribute positively to society.

Our social value

How we deliver sustainability

  • Fabric First Approach

We start with the building fabric, using insulation, airtightness and passive design to reduce energy demand and improve comfort.

  • Low Carbon Materials

We chose materials carefully, specifying timber, recycled content and local sourced products wherever appropriate.

  • Renewable Energy

We integrate technologies such as solar PV, heat pumps and battery storage to reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

  • Circular Economy

We design buildings to be flexible, adaptable and easier to reuse, helping extend their lifespan and reduce waste.

  • Biodiversity Net Gain

We consider ecology from the outset, incorporating native planting, green roofs, wildlife habitats to enhance local biodiversity.

  • Whole Life Carbon Assessment

We assess carbon throughout a building’s life, using the findings to guide design decisions and support continuous improvement.

Our mission

To design buildings and places that respond thoughtfully to human needs, respect context, and contribute a positive legacy for future generations.

Design prowess

No matter the project type, from initial concept to final build, we hold ourselves to the highest design standards. Our team of architects and designers are passionate about creating spaces that are both functional and beautiful.

Our People

We are a friendly and talented team of 25, committed to making a difference for our clients and communities. We work closely with clients and project teams, sharing ideas and drawing on each other’s expertise to find the right solution. That means asking harder questions, working through complexity together, and never reducing a project to a numbers game.

    Catherine Morel

    BA(Hons), M.Arch

I joined the BTP team in 2025 with over 20 years' experience in the production of technical drawings throughout the RIBA work stages.

I previously worked for an AJ100 practice focused on large-scale residential, Extra Care living, and Community Healthcare Hubs. I contributed to the technical delivery of Salford City Council’s first completed Passivhaus scheme, providing low-energy homes for some of the region’s most vulnerable residents. Working on socially driven projects that respond to urgent housing needs in overlooked communities has shaped my approach, balancing technical detailing with lasting, thoughtful design.

Outside of the office I am a dedicated stationery obsessive, culture buff, avid reader and very poor Crown Green bowler.

I joined BTP as an architect in February 2021, bringing eight years’ experience at a large commercial practice in Manchester. I was promoted to associate in x and became a Director in 2023. My background spans masterplanning and large-scale residential and commercial projects across the UK, alongside projects throughout Asia, including a monastic school in India and major masterplans in China.

At BTP, I’ve developed my knowledge and experience in conservation and refurbishment projects across the country, most recently helping convert a listed building in Holyhead, Anglesey, into apartments. I’ve also developed a particular specialism working on high-rise recladding projects across Greater Manchester.

I am a Certified Passivhaus Designer with a focus on refurbishment and sustainability and have a keen interest in how we can live sustainably whilst minimising the impact on the environment.

Outside work, I love cooking, having spent my early years working as a chef in a family restaurant. I’m also a qualified drone pilot and enjoy combining travel and hiking with aerial photography, most recently in the Dolomites and Norwegian fjords. Other interests include running, music and keeping up with the latest technology.

I qualified as an Architect in 2017 joining BTP the same year, was promoted to Associate in 2019 and became a Director in 2023.

Since joining BTP, I’ve led projects from concept through to completion, ranging from large-scale housing developments to refurbishment and high-rise fire remediation. These include an award-winning 34-home affordable housing scheme in Wythenshawe and successful Gateway 2 applications for Hatton Gardens in Liverpool and The Blake in Southampton. I’ve also built a strong relationship with a major national contractor, delivering high-rise remediation and refurbishment projects across England and Scotland.

As an accredited Building Regulations Principal Designer, I have a particular interest in building safety and compliance. My strengths lie in job running, detailed design and project management, helping projects progress smoothly and meet the required standards.

Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family, travelling where possible to explore different cultures and running recently completing the Great North Run 2025 and London Marathon in 2026.

Our Commitment

We’re committed to continuous improvement, using what we learn from every project to shape the next. We invest in our people, support their development and create a culture where creativity goes hand in hand with attention to detail.

Our purpose guides everything we do, helping us create places that make a positive difference to people and communities.
