The Brief

Redbridge Quay is a £10 million residential development within the wider £5 billion Wirral Waters regeneration masterplan. Located in the Northbank district of Birkenhead, the scheme will transform a prominent brownfield site into 90 private-sale apartments across six four-storey pavilion buildings. The development sits beside the Grade II listed former grain warehouses at East Float, placing it within a distinctive industrial and waterfront setting.

Our Role

Appointed following RIBA Stage 2, BTP led the redesign and development of the scheme through to planning approval. We provided architectural services and acted as Principal Designer under both the CDM Regulations and Building Regulations.
Our role focused on refining the proposals to respond positively to the site, meet current regulatory requirements and support the wider ambitions of the Wirral Waters masterplan.

Design & Development Challenges

The development includes 84 one-bedroom apartments designed to M4(2) accessibility standards and six larger three-bedroom apartments designed to M4(3) wheelchair-adaptable standards.

A key challenge was to create a contemporary residential scheme that reflected the area’s strong industrial and maritime heritage. Robust brick forms, pitched roofs and carefully considered proportions draw inspiration from the neighbouring warehouses and dockland buildings. The design also complements nearby developments, helping to establish a consistent identity across the waterfront.

Landscaped public spaces, green areas and improved pedestrian connections will create an attractive setting for residents. Cycle storage, electric vehicle charging, solar panels and air-source heat pumps also support a more sustainable, low-carbon development.

Outcomes

Redbridge Quay secured planning approval for 90 attractive, accessible and energy-efficient apartments, and is currently on-site. The completed development will bring an underused brownfield site back into productive use while enhancing the public realm and connections to the waterfront.

The scheme will make an important contribution to the continuing regeneration of Wirral Waters, creating a distinctive new place to live that reflects the character and history of its dockland setting.

I’m an architect with specialist experience in housing and heritage projects, with a particular focus on fire safety and cladding remediation. I qualified in 2015 and joined BTP in 2017, following roles in Singapore and Sweden working on public buildings, BIM management and accessible design.

I am qualified as a Certified European Passive House Designer, a RIBA accredited Conservation Architect, and became one of the first Architects to be listed on the RIBA Principal Designer Register for Higher Risk Buildings (HRBs).

Outside work, I like to keep fit with running, hiking, weightlifting, skiing and rock climbing. Travel and adventure are a big part of my life, from completing the Inca Trail and climbing Kilimanjaro to running my first (and probably only) marathon on the Great Wall of China.

I joined the BTP team in 2025 with over 20 years' experience in the production of technical drawings throughout the RIBA work stages.

I previously worked for an AJ100 practice focused on large-scale residential, Extra Care living, and Community Healthcare Hubs. I contributed to the technical delivery of Salford City Council’s first completed Passivhaus scheme, providing low-energy homes for some of the region’s most vulnerable residents. Working on socially driven projects that respond to urgent housing needs in overlooked communities has shaped my approach, balancing technical detailing with lasting, thoughtful design.

Outside of the office I am a dedicated stationery obsessive, culture buff, avid reader and very poor Crown Green bowler.
