BTP partners ISG in MOJ Office Refurbishments

Working with ISG, BTP has reconfigured two of the Ministry of Justice’s properties in central Birmingham and another in Stoke on Trent, providing a total of over 5,300m2 of office accommodation.

The projects are part of a wider programme of reform within the MOJ, through which they are adopting new working protocols and digitalising their processes, as well as enabling and supporting learning and improving working culture. BTP’s design reorganises the office space to facilitate these new ways of working. For example, the layout establishes a clear distinction between open-plan work space and common areas, achieving a balanced environment in terms of space, sound, natural light and visual connectivity.

In Stoke-on-Trent the project team refurbished two floors of an existing MOJ property in around 18 weeks. The works included the full strip out of the building and the creation of a central core of cellular accommodation supporting open plan work spaces to either side, providing a bright, modern office environment. Working to a tight timescale, the first floor was handed back on time and the second floor four weeks ahead of programme.

In Birmingham the works were less extensive, with the building remaining live and operational throughout. Much of the work was completed out-of-hours and required working closely with the client to decant employees to allow the works to progress. Our design delivered the same contemporary office space, but retained much of the existing layout. It served the client with improved ventilation and services providing a more comfortable working environment.
