A New Church Hall and Apartments for St Hugh of Lincoln

BTP has recently handed over a new Church Hall and Apartments to St Hugh of Lincoln Church in Timperley.   Taking only 32 weeks to complete, the new Church Hall provides a modern, energy efficient and sustainable internal space and attractive external areas for the Parish and wider community.   BTP were appointed by client the Diocese of Shrewsbury as Architects on a traditional full-service contract with Read Construction as main contractors.

The work comprised demolition of the existing Church Hall, including asbestos removal, construction of the new Church Hall and apartments and external finishes.

The challenges presented by the scheme were managing different forms of structure and construction from the use of steel portal frames in the main Hall through trussed rafters in the flats to complex masonry detailing with stone components.  A very tight programme of works required swift responses to queries on site.

The new building is a great success and offers both a presence off Manchester Road and creates a more defined precinct in conjunction with the existing Presbytery and Church Buildings.
