New mixed tenure housing development
We were architects in a project to design an integrated social housing scheme of 88 dwellings with a varied tenure mix.
The site is located within a mid-20th century residential estate developed along garden village principals and was previously developed as two and three-bedroom flats. The surrounding area in Wythenshawe mainly comprises two storey brick built houses in short terraces with three storey flats located South of the site.
Our objective was to provide a 'blind tenure' development with rented, for sale and shared ownership. The resulting development incorporates short terraces of houses with four-storey flat blocks at key corners of the site and centred along Portway and Painswick Road. Single storey bungalows for the vulnerable elderly are protectively enclosed at the heart of the site.
