Conversion of 1960s building into special needs care facility
We were appointed as architects on the conversion of a 1960s building to provide a specialist nursing care facility with 18 en-suite beds including staff and communal accommodation. The building had an existing 1960s flat roof which presented several challenges. The conversion was designed to be domestic in its character, to fit unobtrusively within a residential environment. Each resident's bedroom has en-suite facilities, and one bedroom at ground level is wheelchair accessible.
The scheme has numerous 'social' areas to allow for a range of activities/contact, including; two lounges, a craft room, dining room, conservatory, laundry and central foyer.
The building has several nursing home features which will be useful in the long term, in catering for a range of dependency levels.
