Project Description

Refurbishment and alterations to range of sheltered housing developments throughout Trafford

We acted as lead architects on a programme to refurbish a number of sheltered housing developments for Trafford Housing Trust throughout the borough, varying in size, construction and age.

Following the successful refurbishment of the individual flats, our attention was turned to the communal areas. The buildings had become tired and needed communal areas to reflect current designs technology and resident aspirations.

As all the schemes are occupied by persons over the age of 55, our designs incorporated measures to future proof the properties and to allow all residents to be able to access the facilities regardless to age or impairment.

Key Features

  • All of the schemes remained open whilst the refurbishments took place.
  • Each scheme refurbishment is individually assessed. A procedure was established to firstly audit the current provisions, consult with staff, present to residents and implement the aspiration.
  • A common theme was to encourage a community atmosphere whilst still retaining a private and independent living. We utilised our refurbishment expertise to meet the complex requirements of the residents.
  • The completed designs have provided a long term future for the schemes. The communal facilities have been upgraded to include lounge extensions, multi-purpose rooms, IT suites and guest bedrooms.
  • All of the premises are now fully accessible under DDA legislation.
