Project Description

Conversion of Grade II listed offices into modern apartments

BTP has transformed a Grade II listed building on Chestergate in the centre of Macclesfield into six modern apartments for client Onward Housing.

Armitage Construction were builders on the development which has turned previously empty offices high quality affordable homes. BTP's role covered all architectural aspects as well as contract administration, cost control and Principal Designer duties.

Key Features

There were a number of design challenges focused around the retention of existing listed features, such as an original 16th Century Jacobean staircase within the building alongside numerous other original features such as sash windows, cornices, fireplaces and minton floors.

Director and Project Architect Manuel Atkinson said "This was a challenging and rewarding project, that has provided much needed affordable housing in the centre of Macclesfield and has given a new lease of life to previously derelict building."
