12 affordable apartments for people leaving homelessness
BTP were architects for Shawe View, a new affordable housing development in Urmston delivered for MSV Housing Association in partnership with Trafford Council. Built on part of a former car park, the scheme provides 12 fully furnished, one-bedroom “move-on” apartments for people progressing from homelessness or rough sleeping towards independent living.
Designed to complement the surrounding residential context, the cottage-style apartments meet nationally described space standards and feature individual front doors, generous natural light, and a sympathetic brick and stone palette inspired by neighbouring Shawe View Terrace. A landscaped green buffer, secure cycle storage, and on-site parking support both sustainability and resident wellbeing.
Allocated via Trafford’s Housing Options Service, the homes offer social rent, giving residents an affordable, high-quality stepping stone before moving into permanent accommodation. Funded in part by a £741k Homes England grant, Shawe View represents the first move-on accommodation in Trafford, combining architectural sensitivity with a strong social purpose.
