Elizabeth Gaskell's House Restoration Commended by English Heritage

We were delighted to receive a commendation from the English Heritage Angel Awards for our work with partners, Armitage Construction and the Gaskell Society to rescue Elizabeth Gaskell House which was on the national buildings at risk register.

The Grade II* listed former home of Victorian author Elizabeth Gaskell, which dates from the 1830s, had suffered from structural disrepair and neglect. The focus and combination of the Manchester Historic Buildings Trust's vision and BTP’s design was to ensure a long-term viable use for the house by making it fully accessible to the public, whilst preserving its architectural heritage.

The English Heritage Angel Awards recognise those who work to save historic buildings which make an important contribution to local and national history, safeguard the nation’s heritage and contribute towards the local community.  The award is co-funded by The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation and supported by The Telegraph.
